FAQs

Photography Style & Inspiration

What is your wedding photography style?
My work blends documentary storytelling with an editorial eye for light and composition. I am inspired by moments that have depth and meaning. Couples describe it as refined yet real, timeless yet modern.

What is documentary wedding photography?

Documentary wedding photography is an approach that captures moments as it authentically unfolds, without excessive posing or interruption. This approach requires an artist who anticipates moments before they happen, works invisibly, and understands the poetry of human connection. Like beautiful cinema stills, the resulting photographs mimic real life yet refined in composition, honest in emotion, and timeless in aesthetic. Years from now, you won't just see what your wedding looked like. You'll remember how it felt.

What inspires your approach?
I draw inspiration from human connection, art, architecture, travel, and the natural rhythm of light. Each wedding is approached with intention, capturing emotion and the authentic story of your day.

Do you offer film photography?
Yes. Every session includes a full gallery of hand-picked and edited digital images, with the option to add 35mm film for a vintage, nostalgic touch.

Booking & Availability

How far in advance should I book my wedding photographer?
I recommend booking 6–9 months in advance for peak season (April–October) and 3–6 months for off-season. I photograph 25–30 weddings per year and popular Saturday dates fill quickly.

What questions should I ask a wedding photographer?

Before booking, ask these essential questions:

Availability — Is my date available?

Experience — How many weddings have you photographed?

Style — Can I see full wedding galleries, not just highlights?

Deliverables — How many edited images will I receive?

Timeline — When will I get my photos?

Backup — Do you have backup equipment and photographers?

Investment — What's included in your packages?

Personality — Can we schedule a consultation to see if we connect?

During our call, I'll answer all of these and discuss your specific vision, timeline, and any concerns. My goal is for you to feel confident and excited about working together.

What is the booking process for wedding photography?

  1. Fill out the inquiry form or email me with your date and location

  2. Schedule a call to discuss your vision

  3. If we’re a great fit, I send a contract and 30% retainer invoice

  4. Once signed and paid, your date is secured

Can we set up a meeting? Where are you located?
After confirming availability, we usually schedule a video chat to discuss your vision. In-person meetings are available Monday–Thursday afternoons or evenings.

Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Booking requires a 30% retainer, with the remaining balance split into 2–3 installments. Final payment is due 2 weeks before your wedding. Payments accepted via credit card, bank transfer, or check.

Packages & Pricing

How much does wedding photography cost in Los Angeles?
Most couples invest $4,000–$12,000 for full-day coverage with an experienced professional. My collections start at $3,995, reflecting over 200 weddings of experience and a documentary style that blends artistry with authentic storytelling.

For comparison:

Budget photographers (1-2 years experience): $2,500-$4,000

Mid-tier professionals (3-5 years): $4,000-$7,000

Established photographers (5+ years, 200+ weddings): $7,000-$12,000

Top-tier specialists: $12,000+

My collections starting at $3,995 reflect mid-to-upper-tier experience and artistry.

Why are wedding photographers so expensive?
Professional wedding photography reflects far more than the hours at your celebration. For every wedding, there's typically 40–60 hours of total work: 10–15 hours of planning and consultation, 8–12 hours shooting, and 20–30 hours culling and editing 800–1,200 images.

You're also investing in professional equipment, years of experience, and the artistic vision that creates images feeling both editorial and emotionally true. Most importantly, you're investing in heirlooms you'll revisit for the rest of your life.

Is hiring a professional wedding photographer worth it?

This might be biased but — yes. Your wedding day will pass by in an instant. Professional photography lets you relive moments you were too busy to notice: your mother's tears during speeches, your partner's expression as you walk down the aisle, spontaneous laughter you might have missed. Years from now, flowers fade and decorations are packed away. But photographs become heirlooms you'll show your children and revisit on anniversaries. A professional brings artistic vision, years managing wedding timelines, and the ability to remain calm and creative under pressure. We anticipate moments, work in difficult lighting, and make you look natural without awkward posing. If you want images you're genuinely excited to look at decades from now, it is worth investing in a professional whose work you love.

Most of the time, yes. It allows for simultaneous coverage for both you and your partner, especially if you’re getting ready in different places before the ceremony. In some cases, usually more intimate weddings only require one photographer for the day.

Do you offer weekday or off-season discounts?
Yes. Weekday or off-season weddings often qualify for 10–15% off, depending on date and season.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
Retainers are non-refundable. Rescheduling is possible but not guaranteed and is subject to availability.

Working With Couples

What types of couples do you work with?
I’m drawn to couples who lead with heart. Those who are kind, compassionate, and value connection. They appreciate aesthetics but prioritize being present, wanting to experience their day fully surrounded by laughter, emotion, and loved ones.

How do you help couples feel comfortable?
My process is rooted in ease and trust. We’ll have a call before booking to ensure we’re a good fit. On your wedding day, I guide gently when needed, allowing you to move, laugh, and be yourselves.

Are you LGBTQ+ friendly?
Absolutely. I welcome all couples and do not discriminate based on sexual orientation, race, or religious beliefs.

Elopements & Destination Weddings

Do you offer elopement or intimate wedding coverage?
Yes. Elopements and small celebrations are quiet, intentional, and deeply personal. Coverage starts at $1,495, and I’ll document your story wherever your love takes you.

Do you travel for weddings?
Yes. Travel within Southern California (Santa Barbara, Orange County, San Diego) is complimentary. Outside Southern California, travel is a flat $1,000 within the continental US. For certain bucket-list destinations, session fees may be waived, leaving only travel expenses.

Timeline & Delivery

How do you approach wedding day timelines?
With experience photographing over 200 weddings, I provide informed guidance on your day’s flow. I help structure key moments, anticipate lighting, and make recommendations so your photos are captured beautifully without feeling rushed.

How long until we get our photos back? How many do we usually get?

  • ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS

  • → 1–2 weeks

  • → 100–200 high-resolution images

  • WEDDINGS

  • → Sneak peek: 3–4 days (15-20 favorite images to share immediately)

  • → Full gallery: 8–10 weeks

  • → 800–1,200 high-resolution images for 8–12 hour coverage

  • All images are professionally edited, color-corrected, and delivered through a private online gallery where you can download, share, and order prints.

How long do you keep our photos? Are they backed up?
Photos remain on my proofing site for 1 year. All galleries from the past 6 years are backed up on multiple hard drives, so you can access and re-download them anytime. Final copies are archived indefinitely.

Do wedding photographers provide RAW files?

No. RAW files are unfinished like rough sketches before a painting. They haven't been color-corrected, exposure-adjusted, or artistically refined. The editing process is where my artistic vision comes to life. Every image you receive has been thoughtfully edited to reflect your day's mood and emotion. This ensures your gallery feels cohesive, timeless, and heirloom-quality images you'll be excited to print and treasure for decades. Your investment includes my full artistic process, from capture through final editing.

Experience & Trust

How many weddings have you photographed?
Over 200. My experience allows me to anticipate moments, make sound judgment calls, and ensure your day is documented authentically.

Do you have testimonials or references from past couples?
Sure do! Couples often share feedback on the quality of images and the relaxed, collaborative experience of working together.

Differentiation & Style

What should I look for when choosing a wedding photographer?

Beyond beautiful images, prioritize these factors:

Style alignment — Do their photos match your vision? If you love candid moments, avoid photographers specializing in heavily-posed portraits.

Personality fit — You'll spend 8–12 hours together. Choose someone whose energy complements yours.

Experience — Ask how many weddings they've shot. Experienced photographers anticipate moments, handle challenges calmly, and work with any lighting.

Full galleries — Request complete wedding galleries, not just highlight reels, to understand how they document entire days.

Value beyond photos — Do they offer timeline planning, vendor coordination, and guidance? These details make your day smoother.

If you're drawn to refined, documentary-style imagery and value a calm presence, we might be a great fit.

How do I choose between wedding photographers?

If you're deciding between photographers with similar styles and pricing, consider: Whose work makes you feel something? Trust your emotional response to their galleries. Whose communication style fits yours? You'll work together for months—ease matters. Who understands your vision? During consultations, do they grasp what's important to you? Who has relevant experience? For example, have they shot at your venue or worked with your size celebration? Whose personality fits your day? Do you want calming and unobtrusive (my approach) or energetic and directive? The right photographer isn't just technically skilled—they understand your story and make you feel confident and excited.

What makes your photography different from other Los Angeles photographers?
I blend documentary storytelling with an editorial eye for light and composition. My focus is on authentic connection, capturing laughter, emotion, and meaningful gestures in a refined, timeless way.

Do you capture candid moments or posed photos?
I prioritize authentic moments. While I guide couples when necessary, most of the day is captured naturally as it unfolds.

Do you offer engagement sessions, rehearsal dinner coverage, or pre-wedding shoots?
Yes. These sessions help couples get comfortable in front of the camera and create meaningful images before the wedding day.

Engagement Sessions

Do you allow outfit changes?
Yes. You are welcome to change outfits during the session as long as we stay within the scheduled time. This allows for a variety of looks to choose from.

What if the weather is bad?
I am prepared to shoot in any weather, as each condition creates a unique and beautiful mood. If you prefer a clearer day, we can reschedule based on availability.

What should I wear and how do I pose?
I take a candid approach while providing guidance with prompts and natural poses. You will also have access to my outfit and pose guide, which gives ideas on what to wear and previews some of my favorite poses, helping you feel confident and prepared.

What if I don’t have a location in mind?
I will share my location guide filled with my favorite spots, photos, and tips on the best times to shoot. If you have another location in mind, I am always open to new adventures.

What should I expect from a session?
Think of the session like a date: relax, enjoy each other's company, and connect. I will guide you with prompts and natural poses so you can stay present. This time is about being in love and creating authentic, lasting memories.
